As a Data Platform API Engineer, you help build and evolve NN's Customer Data Platform by designing, developing, and maintaining the APIs that make customer data available across the organization. Your work enables digital channels, customer journeys, AI solutions, and business applications to access trusted customer data through reliable and secure services. You combine strong software engineering and DevOps skills to build APIs that are scalable, maintainable, and production ready. Together with your team, you ensure that customer data can be consumed safely and efficiently by teams across NN.
What you are going to do In this role, your primary focus is designing, building, testing, and maintaining the customer data APIs that form an important part of NN's Customer Data Platform. You will work as a software engineer, developing secure, scalable, and reliable services that make customer data available to applications, digital channels, and AI solutions across NN.
In addition to API development, you will occasionally support the team with data engineering activities and contribute to improving the DevOps tooling, automation, and release processes that enable efficient software delivery.
You will:
Design, build, maintain, and improve customer data APIs and integration services using technologies such as Python, Databricks, and related platform services
Develop high-quality, production-ready software following modern engineering and API design principles
Build and improve CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, deployment, and release processes
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure services are reliable, observable, and easy to operate
Ensure API quality, performance, security, access management, lifecycle management, and cost efficiency
Translate business and technical requirements into robust and maintainable software solutions
Collaborate with data engineers, platform engineers, architects, and development teams to deliver end-to-end customer data solutions
Modernize existing customer data integrations and APIs in line with the evolving architecture of the Customer Data Platform
Support data engineering activities where needed, helping the wider team deliver customer data solutions

Who you are You are a hands-on Software Engineer with strong experience in Python development and a passion for building reliable, scalable, and production-ready services. You enjoy solving complex integration challenges, designing high-quality APIs, and taking ownership of solutions from development through operations.
You combine a strong engineering mindset with practical experience in software development, cloud platforms, and DevOps. While you'll work closely with data engineers and data platforms, your primary expertise lies in backend software engineering, API development, and system integration.
You bring:
3+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, Backend Engineer, or API Developer
Strong hands-on experience with Python, including writing clean, testable, and maintainable code
Experience designing, building, and operating APIs and backend services
A solid understanding of API design principles, versioning, authentication and authorization, security, and lifecycle management Experience with modern software engineering practices, including code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD
Experience setting up and working with DevOps pipelines, with a focus on automation, reliability, and reproducibility
Familiarity with testing strategies (unit, integration, and end-to-end testing), monitoring, logging, and operational support for production systems
Experience working with cloud-native services on Azure and/or AWS
Knowledge of cloud networking and security concepts, such as private networking, service connectivity, secrets management, access control, and secure exposure of APIs
Experience working in Agile teams and collaborating with software engineers, data engineers, platform teams, architects, and business stakeholders
Experience with data platforms and technologies such as Databricks, or a willingness to learn and work with emerging technologies in the data and AI space
Experience with containerization and Kubernetes is a plus
Who you will work with You will join the Customer Data Management Office within the Customer & Digital domain. As a Data Platform API Engineer, you will work with a broad network of teams across NN to deliver reliable customer data services and integrations.
You will collaborate closely with:
The Customer Data Platform Engineering team, the data engineers responsible for the development and operation of the Customer Data Platform
The Data Management team, to align on customer data definitions, business rules, data quality standards, and data exchange requirements
The SAP Business Partner team, responsible for NN's customer master data platform
The AI Centre of Excellence (AI CoE), enabling customer data to be consumed by AI-powered solutions and services
Engineering teams across NN, including Banking, Non-Life, Pensions, and International domains, to deliver consistent and scalable customer data integrations
Security and Non-Financial Risk teams, to ensure solutions meet security, regulatory, and compliance requirements
The Engineering Guild, where you contribute to engineering standards, share knowledge, and learn from peers across NN
In this role, you will work with stakeholders across both business and technology domains. Together, you will design, build, and operate customer data services that are secure, scalable, and reusable. You will play an active role in embedding security, automation, monitoring, and operational excellence into everything you deliver.
