Kubernetes Platform Enablement Engineer

We are looking for a Kubernetes Platform Enablement Engineer to join our team at NN and help us achieve our goal of becoming a socially responsible tech company that delivers digital products our customers love.

 
What you are going to do

As a Kubernetes Platform Enablement Engineer, you will be responsible for enabling our colleagues in using Kubernetes for their microservices. This provides a wide variety of work, like assisting teams in containerizing apps to building an abstraction layer which simplifies the life of software engineers.

The NN Kubernetes domain consists of multiple distinct platforms built on top of Amazon EKS, Amazon EKS Hybrid nodes and Azure AKS. It is our mission to empower NN’s engineers by offering them a highly scalable, managed Cloud-Native platform that integrates the best fitting technologies, all according to NN security and compliancy standards. It is your job to make sure that engineers within the company embrace Kubernetes in their daily operations, understand the added value of Platform Engineering and know how to containerize workloads. This should enable NN’s engineers to focus on developing their microservices on top of the platform.

The current version of the platform is built as a software product. This means that we follow lean and agile methodologies to ship features as with a software project. We gradually release software in alpha and beta phases and gather feedback from users during these early stages. Every change is built locally and integrated from the version control system through a pull request.

Another important design principle is simplicity. We aim to optimize the work of the team, so that it becomes more fun to deliver our environment due to reduced complexity and ease of new feature development. Simplification leads to more agility to respond to our users’ demands. We are significantly shifting towards more cloud native services, eliminating overhead and also introducing the use of AWS CDK, GitOps, ArgoCD and Crossplane to replace existing Infrastructure as Code implementations with more future-proof technologies.

Your responsibilities

• You enable the business to focus on where it matters and adds value; developing microservices
• You make life easy for our DevOps teams by delivering support for their journey to embrace Platform Engineering
• You develop rock-solid add-ons within our Kubernetes platform using GitOps processes and tools (based on projects from the CNCF ecosystem), that make a short time to market possible and help our developers deliver secure, cost efficient and stable services
• By applying smart design principles, you help reduce the price per container, which minimizes the cost footprint

Who you are

You bring a positive mindset and energy, which makes you fun to work with. You reach out to our customers to learn from them and to involve them in decision-making. Furthermore, you recognize yourself in (multiple) of the following skills and experiences:

• Approximately 1-2 years of experience with Kubernetes, particularly on EKS
• Skilled in using modern programming languages like Go or Typescript
• Experience with popular CNCF technologies like ArgoCD and Crossplane
• Experience with using Azure DevOps
• Ability to think about system and platform designs at scale
• Being CKA or CKAD certified is a big plus

And the following soft skills:

• Ability to enable and train our end users to develop and deploy microservices on the platform while following best practices
• Strong communication (at least English), analytical and collaboration skills

You will be part of the Kubernetes Enablement Team, which is part of NN's Engineering Experience & Platforms domain. In this environment, you will also find the CI/CD and Internal Developer Platform teams as your direct colleagues. This domain has a scale-up type of culture and consists of a group of energetic and empowered engineers and product teams.
