Born and raised in Prague, Klára Kovaříková has built a career spanning over 20 years in finance and accounting. After working for several leading financial institutions and conglomerates, she joined NN nearly five years ago during the COVID pandemic. “It wasn’t easy starting in a new company remotely,” she recalls. “But I was pleasantly surprised at how open and supportive NN was from the very beginning.” 

Finding her place 
Klára’s first role at NN was as a Senior IFRS Methodologist. She now works as a Financial Accounting Supervisor - Insurance, leading a team that prepares the accounting books and statutory reports of NN Life in Czechia. Alongside daily accounting and reporting tasks, she plays an active role in projects such as IFRS 17 or ESG reporting. She is also working on NN’s AI Lab, using her skills to simplify processes. “I enjoy working on projects that start as an idea on paper and then become reality. Seeing processes that I helped shape run in practise gives me a real sense of pride.”

Democratic way of working
Having spent years in more directive and hierarchical organisations, Klára expected something similar when she joined NN. “I thought decisions would all come from the Netherlands and we would simply follow instructions,” she says. “But it turned out to be the opposite. Here, you’re asked for your opinion and are involved in decisions. It may take longer, but it fosters genuine ownership and accountability. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive, which contributes to better results, especially from a long-term perspective.”

Space to learn and grow
For Klára, one of NN’s strengths is the focus on continuous learning and development. She has participated in NN’s Talent Programme and regularly attends training sessions through the internal academy. “The company invests in people and encourages us to grow. Currently, I’m exploring how we can utilise AI tools in our daily work. It’s exciting to learn and experiment with new technologies while contributing to the company’s future.”

Balancing career and family life
Flexibility has also been key for Klára. Hybrid working allows her to combine her career with family life. “I have two teenage children, and I really value being able to cook them a “real meal”  for dinner or accompany them to their hobbies. I also see how NN supports colleagues with young children through flexible working and part-time opportunities. That’s something I wish I had when my kids were little.”

Making a difference
Looking back on her time at NN, Klára highlights the successful implementation of IFRS 17. “We managed to implement this complex reporting standard in a way that enables us to submit reliable figures on time and exploit centralised IT solutions. Moreover, it brought people together from different departments and countries in which NN Group operates”.

A message to new joiners
Asked what she would say to someone considering applying at NN, Klára is clear: “This is a place where you can really express your opinions, learn a lot and be part of an international company. If you want to work in a democratic environment with space to grow, NN is the right choice.”
