We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our ESG CDP team at NN to help us design, build, deploy and run the ESG Central Data Platform solution that will deliver ESG (Environment, Society, Governance) metrics for internal and external stakeholders. Reporting on ESG metrics of the asset portfolio of NN is a key component of the reporting needs and obligations at NN. The ESG Central Data Platform delivers the data collection, aggregation and reporting functionality required by many internal and external stakeholders.

What you are going to do

We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our ESG CDP team at NN to help us design, build, deploy and run the ESG Central Data Platform solution that will deliver ESG (Environment, Society, Governance) metrics for internal and external stakeholders. ESG CDP is a solution built on Azure with Azure-native data technologies, primarily Databricks and Data Factory. We are looking for a senior Data Engineer with 3+ years of hands on experience with Azure Data Factory and Databricks.

For this position, we are also looking for someone with strong leadership skills and experience. As Lead Data Engineer, you will lead the team which includes: coaching and mentoring engineers in the team, supporting the Product Owner in defining and planning Product Backlog Items, aligning with architects and other stakeholders on the solution architecture and technology decisions, steering the team on delivery of results.

Common activities for the Lead Data Engineer to work on in this position are:

  • Design, implement and maintain scalable, reusable and future-proof data pipelines and data storage solutions using best practices with technologies such as Databricks Spark notebooks using Delta Lake, Azure Data Lake Storage, Databricks Unity Catalog and Azure Data Factory
  • Work on solutions for ingesting batch and streaming data and transform using
  • Contribute to Quality Assurance: write automated unit and regression tests, perform code reviews of other developers
  • Align with colleagues in your team and outside of your team on solution design and architecture, the Product Backlog and Roadmap and upcoming new technologies that could deliver business benefits
  • Mentoring and coaching engineers in the team

Who you are

We are looking for a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • 5+ years experience working on data solutions as data engineer and 3+ years experience in working with Azure data technologies such as Data Factory and Databricks. Knowledge of data engineering concepts and data modelling, and capable of applying this to solution design and architecture. Multiple years experience working with Python and hands-on experience with PySpark
  • Experience in leading teams and team members and performing stakeholder management.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum and DevOps teams
  • Living in The Netherlands and willing to come to the office in The Hague 2 days per week.
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and in writing

Your colleagues have many different nationalities and English is the default language for meetings and communication. You will have to collaborate you’re your team members and other colleagues in various locations: The Netherlands, Czechia, Poland, India, Romania, which requires flexibility in your communication. Coming to our office in The Hague will nevertheless also help you in face-to-face aligning with colleagues.
